A CAR has flipped over after striking a telephone pole in Wotton-under-Edge.

The white unidentified vehicle came off the road at the junction of Stumpwell Lane and Swinhay Lane near Bradley Green before striking the pole, which also landed in the road.

The 36-year-old driver was trapped in his car which had landed on its roof, causing petrol to be spilled onto the road.

A Gloucestershire police spokesman said the man was eventually able to get out of the car and police were on hand to redirect traffic while the ambulance was in attendance.

The South Western Ambulance Service received a call to reports of the collision at around 8.08am on Wednesday morning.

A spokesman added: “There was one male casualty, 36-years-old. The casualty received no injuries and was taken to his home address by the ambulance crew.”

Initially a Western Power Distribution truck was sent out to inspect the damage, meaning the power was cut off to the area for 17 minutes for safety reasons.

However on arrival it was realised the pole was a telegraph pole for BT.
