RESCUE dog turned police search dog Stella, the Staffordshire Bull Terrier, will be coming to meet her fans at an event in Gloucester this Saturday (June 7).

Stella was rescued from the streets of Taunton and then recruited and trained by Gloucestershire Police as a proactive search dog.

She will be coming along to event Paws on Patrol in Gloucester Park on June 7.

18-month-old Stella will accompany her handler, PC Claire Todd at the annual event organised by Safer Gloucester.

The Staffy was recruited in January and put through four weeks of intensive training.

She hit the headlines in May after making her first find of £200 in cash hidden in a drawer during a raid in Cheltenham.

Several of the Gloucestershire Police dogs will be displaying their talent at the event, demonstrating how well trained they are to catch criminals as well as proactively search for items.

The display will continue with demonstrations of dog agility, heelwork to music and flyball and will also include the “free to enter” companion dog show.

Also at the event will be stands of information about dog behaviour problems, beauty advice, homemade treats, walkers, boarders and vets, rescue dogs, security dogs and emergency response dogs

There will also be activities for all two-legged visitors including face painting, cakes, a barbeque, bouncy castles, a roundabout, archery and advice on crime prevention, rogue traders, fire safety, healthy living.

Visitors can even bring their bike if they want Dr Bike to give it a special health check.

There will also be an opportunity for dog owners to join Paws on Patrol, if they haven’t already done so, and become part of an ever increasing army of residents who are looking out for their neighbours and reporting any crimes or anti social behaviour to the right place.

There will be a free raffle for all members to win a prize for themselves and their pet.
