A NAILSWORTH road came to a standstill on Monday, June 2, as a when a lost lorry driver attempted to drive up one of the districts most demanding roads.

The village’s roads were gridlocked for over twenty minutes as the foreign driver attempted to turn the lorry around into Watledge Road after failing to make it up George Street towards the twisting ‘W’ section of road.

Village trader Patrick Coyle, 54, said: “I was in my shop and when I noticed there was loads of congestion outside. Everyone was hooting as the road was completely blocked. He turned round in the worst place, it was bedlam.”

Mr Coyle, who owns Nailsworth Computer Sales and Repair Shop, said lorry drivers are often directed to Morrisons supermarket on George Street by Sat Nav and are unprepared for the daunting ‘W’ passage.

“A good driver would have turned around in Morrisons supermarket and been out within a minute” added Mr Coyle, who manages the villages Facebook and Twitter pages.

“He probably just saw the road and didn’t fancy it and decided to turn around.”
