MORE than 300 people have registered to take part in the Laurie Lee Celebration Walk in the Slad Valley organised by Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust.

GWT owns four nature reserves in the valley – Frith Wood, Snows Farm, Laurie Lee Wood and Swift’s Hill – and wanted to mark Laurie’s centenary with a walk around part of the valley which inspired him.

The walk at 11am on Sunday will also give participants a sneak preview of three of the new poetry posts due to be launched as part of the new Laurie Lee Wildlife Way on June 26, which would have been Laurie’s 100th birthday.

“We are also hoping that children from the Croft School in Painswick will act out a scene from Cider With Rosie too,” said walk organiser Jan Ryder.

It starts and finishes at Hawkwood College in Painswick Old Road, Stroud, where there will be music, a barbecue and a bar.

Register your place at or turn up on the day.
