AROUND 400 walkers enjoyed a six-mile stroll through the stunning landscape which inspired Laurie Lee on Sunday.
The Laurie Lee Celebration Walk organised by Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust took in three of its nature reserves – Frith Wood, with its magnificent beech trees and woodland flowers, Laurie Lee Wood, with its views across to Slad village, and Swift’s Hill, which boasts more than 14 species of orchid.
Walkers enjoyed a sneak preview of three of the new poetry posts due to be launched as part of the new Laurie Lee Wildlife Way on June 26 – the centenary of Laurie’s birth.
Members of the Churchdown Players read out the poems inscribed on the posts while children from Croft Primary School performed scenes from Cider With Rosie on Swift’s Hill.
Musician and radio presenter Cerys Matthews will unveil the poetry posts and officially launch the Laurie Lee Wildlife Way on Thursday, June 26.
