IT support and solutions experts enter the world of grassroots sport and school sponsorship

Active Gloucestershire, a local charity that aims to increase the amount of sport and physical activity in the county, are proud to announce OGL Computer, premier provider of IT support and solutions, as the official IT partner to Active Gloucestershire and the Title Sponsor of the 2014 Gloucestershire School Games Summer Festival, which will be held on June 13 and 14 at Hartpury College.

Based in Worcestershire, OGL Computer has been delivering leading edge IT solutions for almost 40 years and has a strong customer base in Gloucestershire.

Speaking of the new partnership, Sam Byrne, OGL Sales Director said: “We are delighted to be working closely with Active Gloucestershire, not only as their official IT partner but also as the Title Sponsor for the upcoming school games. We work with a lot of businesses, organisations and charities across the region supplying tailored IT solutions and this new partnership provides us with an excellent opportunity to engage with the local and business communities and support youngsters who use sport to stay fit and healthy.”

Now in its third year, the level 3 Sainsbury’s School Games in Gloucestershire is a year-round multi-sport series of events co-ordinated by Active Gloucestershire with the support of School Games Organisers, National Governing Bodies of Sport and School Games Maker volunteers.

Nationally, the Games have provided a springboard for many of today’s biggest names in sport. Previous competitors include Paralympic gold medallists Ellie Simmonds, Hannah Cockroft and Jonnie Peacock along with GB sprinter Adam Gemili, heptathlete Katrina Johnson-Thompson and Olympic bronze medallist gymnasts, Max Whitlock and Sam Oldham. Former local athletes who have competed include GB archer Lucy Mason and F34 Men’s shot put World Record Holder Scott Jones.

John Stevens, Chief Executive Officer of Active Gloucestershire said: “Whilst the immediate focus is on the forthcoming School Games events, OGL have opted to partner with us throughout the year, reflecting the sustained and varied nature of our work. This partnership is much more than a simple sponsorship deal and we will be working with OGL to explore how IT can support our work to get more people to be more active, more often. I am excited by the possibilities for both of us and am looking forward to working with OGL to bring these to fruition.”

The Summer Games will see more than 1,000 pupils from schools across Gloucestershire travel to Hartpury College to compete in archery, quadkids athletics, rounders, panathlon, equestrianism, mountain biking, softball, table tennis, rowing and projectability cricket. Of these athletes over 150 will be competing in disability events in five of the sports.

A new addition to this year’s Games is the Sports Village, which will be the hub of the Games.

It will offer athletes, spectators and teachers the opportunity to sample a range of sports and physical activities as well as equipment and clothing from our partners and sponsors.

The Village will also be a scene of celebration and a focal point for the presentations of medals throughout the day.

OGL Computer will be present at the Sports Village and will be challenging spectators to compete in an electronic penalty shootout competition with the chance of winning an Amazon Kindle.
