WHITESHILL School PTA have been working hard to raise enough money for a new outdoor learning classroom and are hoping one last push will help them reach their target.

Along with extra space the new classroom will provide a place for children to work together, extra-curricular activities and support courses for parents.

The school will also be able to rent the space out within the local community for meetings and activities.

Driving force of the project, The Friends, PTA has been very active over the past three years raising money towards the project.

Whitestock, the school’s annual music event, which will take place on Saturday, July 5 has been the major fundraiser since 2011 with all money going towards the £24,000 needed for the classroom.

Funds have also been raised through social events such as quiz nights and sponsored events that involve the children in helping to raise money – last year this was a sponsored swim at Stroud leisure centre.

The school applied for four grants and have so far raised £9,000 from the remaining £11,000, they are hoping to raise the last £2,000 from Whitestock.

The public event is the last push for the PTA to reach the big target.

Kate Kerridge, chair of The Friends, PTA and mother to two pupils said: “Village schools are suffering so much from a lack of government funding.

“This means that we need to find the money ourselves and with space and classrooms being limited it’s really important that we raise this last bit so builders can start work over the summer holidays.”

Whitestock tickets can be bought at Whiteshill School or from Kate on 07813 777197.

Adults £5.00, children £2.50, preschoolers free.
