AS a result of the heavy rain storms on Friday night, Maidenhill School suffered some damage due to water entering the building and closed today, Monday.

The school is closed to students while staff assessed damage and began the clear up to make the ground floor ready for students.

Damage was confined to the main corridor offices and a small number of classrooms – the cost of the damage has yet to be assessed .The damage was discovered when school opened for a rehearsal of its forthcoming production of Hairspray on Sunday morning.

Staff, parents and governors were informed of the damage on Sunday afternoon as work began on the clear up.

Mrs Wilson, Head Teacher, said: “It is a shame that some of Maidenhill’s recently refurbished areas were also affected by the flooding.

"We will be working hard to restore full use of the affected areas as quickly as we can and I thank the staff and community for their best wishes and support.”

The decision as to whether the school will open tomorrow will be taken later on today.
