WITH performers, a barbecue and perfect weather, Beach Day was a great success at Southfield Residential Home on Thursday, June 12.

The 34 residents at the home in Park Road, Stroud, were also treated to ice cream with limbo and even hula hooping. Manager Maggs Illingworth said: “It was fantastic, the residents really enjoyed it.

“It carried on much later than we had planned, and I think a lot of them didn’t want it to finish. It wasn't until 7.30pm that we started rounding it off.

“We were asked if we could do it again next week!”

The care home, which is part of The Orders of St John Care Trust group, also hosted an open-day and afternoon for the public on Friday, June 20.

The beach theme will be returning to the care home on Saturday, September 6 for the Southfield Summer Fete. The public are warmly invited to the fete, which will include a donkey ride and Winstones Ice Cream.
