SHOPPERS in Nailsworth are being encouraged to make a wish after one shop owner had an ingenious idea to raise money for charity.

Claire Hill, 42, owner of creative cafe Paint-a-Pot, is invited passers-by to pay 50p to write and hang their wish on a 1.5m high papier-mâché tree.

She has decorated the tree and cut out dozens of little green leaves which are hung to the branches on ribbons. Money raised will be donated to a different charity each month, with wishes currently funding Cheltenham specialist education centre National Star College.

Claire promised to add to whatever money is raised.

She said: “Anyone can come in and pay 50p for a wish and write it on a leaf or just draw a smiley face if they want to. Every wish helps.”
