POLICE are appealing for information following a knife attack against a man in New Street Cheltenham early this morning.

The assault took place shortly after midnight when the victim was attacked by two men as he walked along New Street in the direction of Waitrose.

He received minor cuts to his knuckles which did not require hospital treatment.

One of the men was carrying a knife and demanded money from the victim, squeezing him round the neck.

It is believed one of the offenders called out to ask the victim the time before he was approached and attacked close-by Waitrose.

It is not clear which direction his attackers took afterwards.

The victim managed to make his escape down Western Street after surrendering his wallet.

Both men, one or both of them white, are believed to be in their early 20s, between 5 ft 9 inches and 5 ft 11 inches tall.

One man is believed to have dark hair, of medium build, and wearing a black hooded top and tan-coloured knee length shorts.

The other male is believed to have dark hair, of slim build, wearing jeans and a hooded grey top with black sleeves.

The assailant with the knife was believed to be wearing some facial hair.

The knife is believed to be short bladed with a 3 – 4 inch handle.
