Potholes are on their way to being conquered in Stroud after a new multi-million pound council investment.

Stroud MP Neil Carmichael has praised the success of the campaign for increased funding to combat potholes in the Stroud Valleys and Vale, as Gloucestershire County Council announced on Friday that £3,384,269 extra had been secured to repair the county’s roads.

Neil Carmichael MP has worked closely with Gloucestershire County Council and Gloucestershire Highways to secure increased funding, and has discussed the needs of the Stroud constituency with Government Ministers. Earlier this year Neil went out with a highways team to help them fill in potholes, repairing one in the centre of Stroud.

Neil has also met with residents in Nailsworth, Cam and Dursley, Eastington and elsewhere in the constituency to discuss problems with the road surfaces in their streets and neighbourhoods.

News of the extra funding comes shortly after resurfacing began on the A38, one of the Stroud district’s busiest roads, between the Hardwicke roundabout and Claypits, Eastington. The A38 resurfacing was also campaigned for by Neil Carmichael MP and County Councillor Tony Blackburn.

Neil Carmichael MP said: “Investing in infrastructure is one of the soundest investments the Government is making, and I am delighted that an additional £3.3 million has been secured for Gloucestershire’s roads.

“I am committed to ensuring that ongoing investment goes to where it is needed, which includes our roads, rail, schools and hospitals.”
