SWINDON police are providing extra resources in Rodbourne and Swindown Town centre following the murder of a man in his 60s on Thursday.

The man was found next to a path between Rodbourne and Swindon town centre. The path begins close to Swindon Railway Station and runs to the Oasis Leisure Centre.

In addition to extra patrols police are providing a police information point in Fleet Street.

Police officers are available to offer reassurance and advice on personal safety when out and about.

Staff at this information point can also assist if anyone has information which may help the investigation.

Superintendent Andrew Carr said: 'I would like to reiterate our appeal for anyone who was in the area between early evening yesterday June, 36 and 12.30am on June, 27 to contact us immediately on 101.

Police are also encouraging the need for everyone to think about personal safety, particularly during the night time, with the below advice.

• Avoid walking alone late at night • Make sure someone knows where you are going and when you expect to return • Consider carrying a personal alarm • Make sure your mobile phone is charged and you have sufficient credit • Use well-lit routes • Plan how you are getting home and use public transport if possible • Report any suspicious activity Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call Wiltshire Police via 101.
