RODBOROUGH Parish Council held an extraordinary meeting on Monday night to discuss how best to fight plans to build 100 homes on Rodborough Fields.

Planning officers at Stroud District Council refused the proposal under delegated powers back in November last year.

Officers had concerns about ecology, surrounding wildlife and the impact on the AONB.

The developers Lioncourt Homes submitted plans for approximately 100 homes on a 3.3 hectare patch of the fields between Dr Newton’s Way bypass and the existing King’s Road estate in the spring 2013.

It has recently appealed SDC’s decision to refuse the plans and an appeal is set to take place in the upcoming months.

At the meeting on Monday councillors discussed the statement of case they wished to present to the planning inspector as a Rule 6 party.

The council reiterated its objection to the development but as a Rule 6 party it has also been given the opportunity to submit conditions should the appeal be allowed.

Cllr Alick Miskin outlined the main condition which focused on the proposed bridge by the developers stating that current design was unacceptable and requested a bridge which was more environmentally friendly to the area.

Councillors also agreed in principle to take on ownership of the play area at the proposed ASDA store on the Daniels Industrial Estate should plans be allowed at this month’s crunch supermarket meeting.
