Former Stroud councillor Molly Scott Cato makes first appearance in European Parliament
FORMER Stroud District Councillor Molly Scott Cato has wasted no time in getting stuck into her new job as a Member of European Parliament.
Dr Cato got to work straight away on her first appearance at the EU Parliament in Brussels on Tuesday, July 1.
Her immediate priority is to ensure that authorities in Cornwall will be allowed to decide how their £450 million of EU funding is spent- rather than having central government decide for them.
“I am deeply unhappy that the management of convergence funding will shift from regional authorities in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly towards central government bodies” she said.
"Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly have a long history of using these funds efficiently and effectively. I will be seeking reassurances from the Commission that they will do all they can to stand up for Cornwall and the Cornish people" Dr Cato added. Dr Cato became the first ever Green party MEP for the South West after winning a seat in May’s European elections.
Her recent resignation as Stroud District Councillor has forced a bye-election to be held for a replacement next month.
