PEOPLE can feel Night Fever, sing and dance to defeat a deadly disease at a charity Disco and Karaoke Night.

Katie Lee, 26, of Cirencester, and her family and friends were devastated when her 20-month-old cousin Darren died of meningitis.

Tragically, he had a rash, but doctors were unsure what it was, so he deteriorated quickly.

It was too late by the time Darren, of Cirencester, reached Cheltenham General Hospital in 1992.

Katie, with friends Leanne Bedford, Letitia Newbegin and Laura Parker, host the event for Meningitis Now, at Cirencester Town FC’s Corinium Stadium, Kingshill Lane, on Saturday, July 12.

It runs from 7pm to late and there will be a raffle with prizes including several free meals, £50 M&S voucher, photo shoot, music lesson and barrel of beer.

Mum-of-two Katie said: “Losing Darren was devastating to everyone who knew him, so I chose Meningitis Now to help stop others losing loved ones.

“I’ve two adorable daughters and I can’t imagine life without them.

“It’ll be a fun-packed night, any support is greatly appreciated – it’s for such a worthy cause.”

Tickets cost £6.50, including a drink and nibbles, from Katie on 07507 273915.

All money goes to Stroud-based Meningitis Now.

Founder Steve Dayman MBE, of Alveston, who launched the UK’s meningitis movement after losing his baby Spencer to the disease in 1982, added: “What happened to Darren shows how cruel meningitis can be.

“We thank Katie and the gang for organising the evening.

“Without dedicated people like them, we couldn’t continue to fight the disease through research, awareness and support.”
