A PIECE of art sculpted by Rodborough artist Sam Freeman, who won a competition to create the work, was unveiled in Stroud on Friday.
Sam, who lectures part-time at SGS College, was chosen from 28 entries from sculptors across Gloucestershire to design an artwork which is now sited alongside the newly restored Thames and Severn Canal at Capel’s Mill.
The 3x5-metre sculpture, unveiled by Seren Levay, aged nine, was sponsored by Chalford’s Pangolin Editions sculpture production facility, used by Damien Hirst, using recycled materials left over from the company’s production process.
The judging panel comprised of local artists as well as representatives from Stroud District Council, Cotswold Canals Trust and from Pangolin Editions.
Sam said: “My inspirations for the piece were the lines of transport in the area. There are amazing views around the canal and you get a different view from each angle. It was worth the intense three months of work see it unveiled.”
The linear connective sculpture represents lines of transport in Stroud.
