COURAGEOUS Stroud High School student Amy Carr, 13, will have her hair shaved off in aid of two good causes on Saturday.
Amy will say goodbye to her locks at 11am at Stroud farmers’ market with the aim of raising £900 to be shared between Cancer Research and St Rose’s School.
“My Aunty Anona died of cancer when I was younger and it struck me then that everyone should help so I decided to do something for the charity,” she said.
“Mum and I ran the Race For Life a few years ago but I wanted to do more.”
Amy’s regular hairdresser Emma Price will wield the clippers.
Her hair currently stretches right down her back but she is determined to go ahead with the head shave.
Amy wants to take a stand against the rise of the selfie on social media which she says is making young people “obsessed” with their appearance. She has set up a Facebook page called Shave My Head and has started a Twitter campaign at #shavemyhead.
