SPORTS DAY season continues throughout this week, but a Stroud care home is proving that the day is definitely not just for kids.
Southfield Care Home, Park Road, Stroud, held a two day sporting spectacular where residents enjoyed a wide variety of fitness fun on Monday, July 7 and Tuesday, July 8.
The events included mini archery, pot marbles and long-throw, where residents hurled a bean bag into targets. There was a staff competition too.
101-year-old resident Rosina Robinson proved to be a fantastic all-round competitor, while fellow resident Irene Fletcher brilliantly turned her hand to the pot marbles. Even SNJ photographer Tom Wren enjoyed a game of bean bag throw.
This is the sixth year Yvonne Kelly-Fox, activities manager at the Orders of St John care home, has organised a sports day for the elderly.
Home manager Maggs Illingworth said: “It went really well, we had great fun and most of the residents took part.”
No sporting event is complete without an awards ceremony, and true to form the care home will present certificates for participation and achievement today.
“We’re not sure who won yet” laughed Maggs, “The results are kept private while the scores are added up- it’s all very secretive.”
