THE Nu-Pro factory is to be demolished and re-built because of the severity of the fire damage.

Yesterday, Tuesday, the company, which also has a larger site at nearby Eagle Works, released a statement.

It said: “The directors of Nu-Pro Limited deeply regret the disruption caused to local residents and businesses.

“Nu-Pro understands the concerns that residents and businesses may have about the incident and would like to reassure those affected that any residual ash/debris from the fire represents no threat to public health and has caused no lasting environmental damage.

“The company is working closely with Stroud District Council which has sought to reassure residents that there is no danger from any ash deposits in or around their properties and to offer advice on its removal.

“In addition, the Environment Agency, which has been closely monitoring the site since the incident occurred, has confirmed that there has been no significant environmental impact. The cause of the fire is currently being investigated.

“As a leading Stroud business with 120 staff and a turnover in excess of £11 million, Nu-Pro takes the safety and well-being of all its employees, contractors as well as residents, businesses and the environment extremely seriously. It has robust and stringent health and safety procedures and environmental policies in place and will be conducting an independent review.

“There were concerns that cadmium was stored at the site but the company said it has never been stored or used there.

Nu-Pro employs 123 staff at Eagle Works and four at Griffin Mill, who have now been deployed to the Eagle Works site. It has rented the Griffin Mill site since 2005.
