YOUNG entrepreneurs Josh Hurley and Olly Moinet started their own business in screen printing after spotting a gap in the market.

After both graduating from Falmouth University in 2012 with degrees in illustration, the pair decided to take their own route through the competitive and unforgiving world of design.

Silkscreen printing is an old process and, despite having survived many reinventions, it still retains its handmade authenticity.

Josh, 24, who takes a lot of inspiration from the current music poster scene, said: “The combination of our two differing styles has helped us develop a unique and versatile look that can be used in numerous applications.”

With a detailed knowledge of traditional silkscreen printing processes, Josh and Olly produce high quality hand printed goods from greetings cards to tea towels and T-shirts.

With keen eyes for design, typography and printmaking, they decided to start up on their own.

The Key Print House is a contemporary design and screen printing studio based on the Salmon Springs industrial estate in Stroud.

When not knee deep in ink at the studio, they spend their time on board their narrow boat Salliannah travelling between Slimbridge and Gloucester on the canal.

Since setting up the studio in October last year, the budding business people have worked with clients including Painswick Rococo Gardens, Wolfy’s Porridge, Livewire Radio and more.

Silkscreen printing is a passion for both Olly and Josh, who get a real thrill out of applying hand mixed inks to a chosen medium.

Olly, 25, said: “We believe that nothing beats a hand crafted feel and knowing our work intimately means we can always find a creative solution for any printing project.”

As creative and versatile designers Olly and Josh can put their illustration, typography and graphic expertise to practice on projects with professional results.

As well as having a range of artisan products that they sell in craft shops and on market stalls, The Key Print House also offers a bespoke design and print service.
