THE Bear of Rodborough is to undergo a £1 million expansion which will create 20 new jobs.
Unfortunately, as reported in last week’s SNJ, the plans mean the Bear of Rodborough Croquet Club, which uses the lawn at the hotel, will no longer be able to meet there. It has been given notice to leave after 30 years.

Hotel manager Kate Carter said: “I can confirm that notice has been given to the Rodborough croquet club to enable the hotel to progress with an exciting £1 million expansion and investment project.
“Planning permission for the alterations at the hotel will allow for a new brasserie and extended bar area alongside a beautiful new wedding and banqueting suite.
“We are in the early stages of planning the project and look forward to creating an exciting destination for locals and tourists along with creating 20 jobs for the area.”
The croquet club is now looking for a new lawn – and members are urgently appealing for anyone with a suitable site to come forward.
