Waterside park overlooking Brunel masterpiece wins engineering award
STROUD’S new waterside park has received a community award from the Institution of Civil Engineers.
Capel’s Mill, off Dr Newton’s Way, has been transformed since Stroud District Council routed 330 metres of new canal through the site at a cost of nearly £4 million.
Volunteers have since transformed the site into a public park, overlooking the historic GWR railway viaduct, designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel.
The park now includes benches, hundreds of newly-planted trees and a wildflower meadow.
The Institution of Civil Engineers community award recognises projects that improve public space and infrastructure and enhance the living and working environment for the community.
