MORTARBOARDS and gowns were the attire for children at Little Angels Day Nursery in Stonehouse on Wednesday.

To say goodbye and good luck to the children, who are aged between four and five, Little Angels nursery staff decided to hold a graduation ceremony.

The nursery, in Newton, Stonehouse, held the graduation ceremony for the first time, and parents were invited to watch their children on a stage wearing miniature gowns and mortarboards.

Each child, due to take the huge step to their chosen primary school in September, was presented with a degree unique to their personality and character, including philosophy, demolition and biology.

William Watson, four, received a degree in palaeontology for his love of dinosaurs while Isobel Castle, four, earned a degree in international relations, for her love of talking.

Linda Smith, manager of Little Angels said: “The afternoon was a great success enjoyed by children, parents and staff alike.

“All of our leavers are very precious to us and will leave a big hole behind at nursery.

“Especially as most of them have been with us since they were babies. We wish them luck as they take this huge step forward.

“We have seen each child grow and develop in their own way. They will be sadly missed.”
