Gloucestershire County Cricket League Division Five

Cam 2nds (201-7) lost to Wickwar (203-8) by two wickets

WICKWAR picked up their first win of the season at the ninth attempt at fellow strugglers Cam on Saturday.

After Cam decided to bat first, Ed Paddock hit 61 to set them on their way towards a competitive total, while Ryan Western smashed four fours and three sixes in his 41 and Christopher Wilcox finished unbeaten on 31.

Wickwar opening bowler Lewis Hill took 3-26, while there were two wickets apiece for Jack Hewitt and James Artingstall.

After Western (3-28 off nine overs) took two early wickets, Artingstall got Wickwar’s chase on track by scoring 62.

Although other batsmen made starts, wickets fell regularly with Tom Hancock taking 3-45, and Steven Rice and Wilcox claiming one each until ninth wicket pair Hill (14*) and Daniel Phillips (28*) led the visitors home with nine balls to spare.

This win has almost certainly come too late to save Wickwar from relegation to the Stroud League, though, as they remain entrenched at the foot of the table, while Cam missed the chance to climb out of the bottom two with three games remaining.
