A FALL at home caused the death of a Dursley woman just four days before her 89th birthday, an inquest has heard.

Gloucestershire senior coroner Katy Skerrett recorded a conclusion of accidental death on Sheila Wright of Reine Barnes Close in Woodmancote who died on September 16, 2013 at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital.

Her body had been formally identified by her daughter Rachel Williams who did not attend the inquest in Gloucester.

The coroner heard that on September 9 Mrs Wright was rushed to hospital after being found on the floor at home following an unwitnessed fall.

She had no recollection of what happened.

She was admitted to acute care the next day at 2.25am and became unresponsive. A sub dural haematoma - a blood clot on the brain - was found but she was not deemed suitable for surgery.

Pathologist Professor Neil Shepherd said the haematoma was the cause of death.

Ms Skerrett recorded a conclusion of accidental death.
