REDNOCK School has seen hundreds of its pupils pick up their GCSE results today, with the majority attaining good marks.

Of the 228 Year 11 students who took their exams after two years of studying 67 per cent have achieved the benchmark of getting five GCSEs of A* to C including maths and English.

The result was down slightly on last year, which was 69 per cent, but headteacher David Alexander was pleased with his pupils after they had to endure a number of reforms mid-year.

One of the reforms is that while students can still re-sit exams and improve their grades, the school’s own record for their students’ achievements, will remain the same.

“It’s been a nightmare with the changes,” he said.

“They are good results and English and maths are the key ones. It’s been a difficult year for them because of the changing picture nationally.”

In total, 78 per cent of the students achieved an A*to C in English and 75 per cent achieved the same grade for Maths, considered the most important qualifications in the GCSE curriculum.

Sixteen-year-old Stinchcombe student Callum Harries looks set to return to Rednock’s sixth form full of confidence after securing seven A*s three As and two Bs.

He will be studying maths, the three sciences and taking an A-level in English language, a year early.

“I am actually a little disappointed my art result which I got a B in, but overall I am very pleased, especially with history,” he said.

“I am really quite excited to be going to sixth form.”

Eloise Butterfield, from Cam Green, 16, secured eight A*s one A, three Bs, a distinction star in ICT and a B in her AS English which she took a year early.

She will also be returning to Rednock in September where she will be studying maths, further maths, physics and PE.

“I was really relieved to be honest,” she said.

“I got the AS result last week so was wondering how it was going today but I am very happy.

“I would like to study physics at university because there’s not many women in that field and I love physics.”
