MARLING School is celebrating the success of its year 11 students who have achieved yet another fabulous set of GSCE results.

Almost half the grades achieved are at A* to A grades with 17 per cent at A*; 53 per cent of students individually achieved 5 or more A* to A grades. Overall all 121 pupils who sat GSCE level exams passed.

There were many stories of success with 80 students achieving 8 or more A* to B grades and 43 students achieving eight or more A* to A grades.

Hardworking Hayden Searle, 16, achieved 11 A*s and one A grade and hopes to take up a place at Pate’s Grammar School Sixth Form, Cheltenham.

“Since putting in the hard work I was not that surprised when I opened the envelope but still I am pleased,” said Hayden.

“I am relieved that my GCSEs are over and hope to get into Harvard or Oxford University after my A-levels.”

In total 97 per cent of students achieved five or more A* to C grades including English and Maths.

Another ambitious pupil, Luke Olutunmogun gained 9A*s and 2 As, he said: “I am really happy because I did not expect it at all.

“I was expecting a couple of As and when I opened my results I had to keep checking my name, I felt pretty emotional.”

Luke hopes to study medicine at university at either Cambridge or Manchester after completing his A-levels at Marling and Stroud High Sixth Form.

As students opened their white envelopes reading their results parents and teachers congratulated the relieved youngsters.

Headteacher, Dr Stuart Wilson said: “I am so pleased for the boys who thoroughly deserve their success.

As the first year group through the new linear GCSEs our boys have continued to perform at a very high standard.

“They have adapted well, shown great ambition and have now built a solid platform for A-level success.

“I would like to thank our staff who have worked tirelessly to support the boys; like me I am sure they will be very proud of the boys.”
