A WALKING group from Cirencester joined in a month-long celebration of the River Thames when they took part in a relay that saw them trek through Gloucestershire and Wiltshire.

The Source to Sea River Relay this month sees a bottle of water taken from the source of the River Thames, and then carried the entire length of the river to central London and out to sea.

The Cirencester Ramblers walked with the bottle from the source of the Thames near Kemble, to Cricklade and then on to Lechlade between August 16 and 17.

In the first leg of the relay, the bottle reached Cricklade on August 17 and it will then be carried by local members of The Ramblers, who will arrive in Lechlade on August 18.

The relay is part of Totally Thames, a month-long arts and cultural celebration of London’s river that features over 100 river-related events along the 42 mile course of the river.

It is now be taken by various forms of river transport up to the Tower of London and then on to Southend on sea.
