STUDENT Jake Rebbeck was over the drink-drive limit when he crashed his car and died on the A4135 near Kingscote, an inquest heard.

Jake, who was in the first year of a business studies degree at Southampton Solent University, had been drinking with friends to celebrate his 21st birthday on Tuesday, March 4.

Thursday’s inquest in Gloucester heard he lost control of his MG on a bend near Hunter’s Hall and hit an oncoming Ford Transit van around 6am the following morning. Jake, of South Street, Uley, suffered multiple injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The inquest heard how Jake had been out with friends in Southampton earlier that night when he discovered £120 had been stolen from his bank account.

He then decided to drive home to Uley to sort out the problem.

Tests showed he had 111 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. The limit is 80 milligrams.

Coroner Katie Skerrett recorded a verdict of death by road traffic collision saying that ‘alcohol and tiredness were contributing factors.’
