DOGGED determination paid off for the winners of a pet show at popular Stroud pub the Crown and Sceptre.

Dogs of all shapes, sizes and breeds were entered into the event, which turned out to be a howling success.

A number of different classes and categories were held including most handsome dog, prettiest bitch, best party trick, the dog judges most wanted to take home, and an obedience class.

There was also an obstacle course, where dogs were made to weave in and out of poles and take on jumps.

Landlord Rodda Thomas said: “People from far and wide turned up and we had well behaved dogs from tiny Chihuahuas and, on a larger scale, a Great Dane.

“My dog, Big Ron, a chocolate Labrador, won the best party trick and I can now say he is definitely the cleverest dog in Stroud.”

The show was sponsored by Stroud’s Clockhouse Vets.

There was also a stall with a raffle which made about £100 for the appeal to raise £2.5 million for the Cotswolds Dogs and Cats Home.
