SPORTS stars from Leonard Stanley Primary School showcased some the school’s great talent at the Stroud Area School Competition.

The competitions are open for year three to six children from schools across Stroud and if a school team wins at district level they can qualify to go on to county-wide regional finals.

Leonard Stanley Primary School in Bath Road entered many competitions and the achievements came thick and fast.

Each member of the year three and four gym team performed individually securing them a bronze award.

The athletics team secured third place in the district final after taking part in events such as running, throwing and jumping — and a relay.

The rugby team also finished in third place while the cricket team excelled after being named outstanding runners up in the Stroud Kwik Cricket competition. This was the first time the cricketers had entered a Stroud league and the pupils beat Minchinhampton Primary School in the final. A number of other teams had success competing in rugby, football, netball, rounders and swimming.

Deputy headteacher and sports coordinator Andy Babbage said: “It was absolutely brilliant. The children thoroughly enjoyed all the sporting opportunities and the successes were just a reflection of what a talented group they are.”
