A NEW support group for women suffering from post natal depression has been set up in Cirencester, with sessions beginning this month.

Shine! support group has been created by Lauraine Cheesman, who suffered from the condition herself after the birth of her second child, Eliza.

"Although I did have lots of support there was no way of meeting or speaking to other mums suffering in the same way, which was so hard, as you really do feel like you are the only one," said Lauraine.

Post-natal depression is a type of depression some mothers suffer from after having a baby. It affects around one in 10 women after they have a child and symptoms can either be almost unnoticeable or quite severe.

Lauraine knew that when she was better she wanted to help other mums struggling with the illness, and decided to start up a support group.

"I wanted to create a nurturing environment for mums to come and have some "me time" for a couple of hours," she said.

The classes allow mums to meet others suffering from the same problem, while enjoying relaxing and calming activities such as art therapy, yoga, massage, manicures and listening to guest speakers.

Sessions begin this month and take place every Tuesday afternoon at the Churn Project's new premises at 14-16 The Waterloo in Cirencester.

Entry is £2 per person and there will be a creche for babies with volunteers on hand so mums can chat and try new activities without too much distraction.
