STROUD MP Neil Carmichael has praised the proposal for a new South Gloucestershire and Stroud College University Technical College at Berkeley Green, specialising in Digital Technology and Advanced Manufacturing.
Following a visit to SGS College to discuss the UTC proposal with SGS college principal Kevin Hamblin, Mr Carmichael said: “This is a decisive step in the right direction towards making sure manufacturing and engineering thrive as part of the long term prospects of the economy.”
The proposal for the new UTC would form part of the wider Berkeley Green Centre – an initiative Mr Carmichael proposed for developing the skills required within the manufacturing and engineering sector.
Mr Carmichael added: “I am determined to inspire young people to think of manufacturing and engineering as a career choice. This proposed UTC is in parallel with my vision for aspiring engineers and the Festival of Manufacturing and Engineering.”
He will be joining SGS staff members later this month on a visit to Sheffield’s UTC to learn about the application and establishment process.
