THE Fitness Mill at Thrupp is holding a Fun Day which will help raise funds for The Nelson Trust, amongst other charities on Sunday, September 14 from 12pm to 4pm.

The day will be opened by England and Gloucester Rugby Star Nick Wood.

Running alongside the event will be the Fitness Mill’s ever popular aerobathon from 10am to 3pm.

It will also give members and non-member the opportunity to sample new fitness classes.

The Nelson Trust, a neighbouring charity have been using the gym for many years to encourage their clients who are in abstinence-based treatment for drug and alcohol addiction, to increase their fitness levels and regain a healthy attitude towards exercise.

The Nelson Trust which is a residential rehabilitation centre which offers therapeutic support and practical help with housing, education, training and employment believe that clients need to fill their time effectively during evenings and weekends and the gym is a great place to start.

The Nelson Trust have a great relationship with the Fitness Mill and the staff have supported some of the most unfit clients back to health.

Ian Black who has worked at the Nelson Trust for many years said “In early recovery it is important that physical exercise is offered as part of the treatment program. The gym offers many different ways to pursue this and to make it an enjoyable experience to enhance recovery in mind as well as body.”

He added “The gym experience also offers a means of gaining social skills and confidence. I am in recovery myself and found the gym and exercise an important part of the recovery process.”

There will be a variety of activities at the Fun Day including face painting, bouncy castle, coconut shy, BBQ, as well as the opportunity to meet the Gloucester and England rugby players who are opening the event.

Also Lee Powell who is the first IBBF bodybuilder from Gloucester to be in the World Championships will be running a seminar during at 1pm to talk about training techniques, nutrition and the weight training world.
