THE Labour group on Stroud District Council has recommended a freeze on council tax for the next financial year.
SDC leader, Geoff Wheeler, said there should be no need to increase the tax in 2015/16.
“The revenue support grant from government will decrease about £800,000 between this year and next,” he said.
“But if we maintain good financial management it should mean no need to increase SDC’s portion of the council tax.
“There have been dire warnings that some councils will need to be bailed out in the next few years.
“The Labour group is determined that continued sound policy will mean that Stroud District Council will not be one of those councils.”
