DEVELOPERS are eyeing up land near Stratford Park to build 90 new houses.

An environmental impact assessment has already taken place on the land known as Grange Fields in Wick Street, Stroud, and it is believed to just be a matter of time before a planning application is submitted.

The purpose of the impact assessment is to establish the type and range of environmental receptors, such as wildlife, which may be affected by the proposal.

At this stage the point of the exercise is to try and establish in environmental terms who and what would be affected by the proposal to build 90 homes on the land.

During a Stroud Town Council meeting on Monday night, new district councillor Martin Baxendale expressed his concerns about the potential development – especially in terms of the number of bats which use the field.

“This is a very sensitive site in terms of bats, and needs to be treated very carefully before anyone talks about slapping buildings on there,” said Councillor Baxendale.

A planning application has not yet been submitted.
