GLOUCESTERSHIRE’S Chief Constable Suzette Davenport is determined to pour cold water on the idea that police are no fun.

The county’s most senior police officer will be undertaking the ice bucket challenge to raise money for charity and to mark 175 years of Gloucestershire Constabulary on Sunday, September 14.

Ms Davenport will brave the icy cold challenge after being nominated by one of her fellow colleagues.

The spectacle of Gloucestershire’s top cop getting a soaking will be one of the highlights of the force’s anniversary celebration, which is taking place at the police headquarters in Quedgeley between 10am and 3pm.

Police dogs, the Tri-Force roads policing team, forensics unit, firearms officers and crime reduction department will all have stands on the day, while there will also be the chance for people to take a police fitness test.

The event is being held to showcase the work of officers and units from across the force and to offer the public the opportunity to take part in a range of fun activities.

Youngsters will have the chance to have their face painted, try some balloon modelling or even throw a wet sponge at a bobby.

Bike security marking will be taking place and there will also be information on how to become a special constable.

Entry to event is free, with parking available at the nearby park and ride and on site at the Waterwells Business Park for disabled people.

Chief Constable Suzette Davenport, who will be attending the event, said: "We've never had an open day on this scale before but it's a fantastic way of celebrating our anniversary and highlighting the sheer array of work we're doing.

"They'll be plenty of entertainment too – not least because I'll be taking part in the ice bucket challenge after being nominated by one of my colleagues."
