A WOMAN hit by a train this morning was pronounced dead at the scene.
The woman was in her sixties.
A spokesman for South West Ambulance Service said they were called at 8.03am to the line between Gloucester and Bristol Parkway, between the Wickwar tunnel and Yate Train Station.
He added: "There was one female casualty who had been hit by a train.
"She was pronounced dead at the scene.
"We attended but only to confirm the death."
All lines were closed during rush hour but have now reopened. Network Rail is warning of residual delays and passengers have been advised to find alternative modes of transport.
First Great Western said relief drivers and managers were sent to move two trains at Yate.
British Transport Police are now investigating the incident.
