THE SNJ took to the streets of Stroud to gather opinions on the Scottish Referendum.

A historic referendum on whether Scotland should become an independent country or stay in the union takes place tomorrow, Thursday.

As opinions clash, social media giant Facebook has seen 10 million interactions concerning the debate in a five-week period.

John Henderson, of Eastcombe, believes that if Scotland were to become an independent country, this would have a major effect on the Labour Party.

“I think Scotland should stay in the union, as a Labour voter I do not want them to become independent because the Labour Party will no longer be represented,” he said.

Labour has 41 out of the 59 Scottish seats.

One man, originally from Edinburgh but now living in Nailsworth with family friends, said he was planning to travel back to Scotland tomorrow to vote yes in the referendum.

The 20-year-old, who asked not to be named, said: “I am going home tomorrow to vote yes, I think Scotland should become its own country.

“I would say the majority vote from my friends in Edinburgh is yes however with my friends over here they seem to be against it.”

“I think definitely think they should be their own country.”

In contrast, Valerie Phillips, of Stroud believes letting people as young as 16 vote in the referendum was ‘foolish’.

“I think it would be very foolish for Scotland to leave the UK,” she said.

“I do not think they have looked into it thoroughly, especially getting 16-year-olds to vote who do not know much about it.

“There is nothing wrong with the United Kingdom it all seems ridiculous.”
