A NEW rival supermarket is set to open in Cirencester in less than one month's time.

Since May this year an Aldi store has been under construction at Kingsmeadow, only feet away from Tesco Extra, the town's largest supermarket.

Now, the store's staff are delighted to announce the shop will be officially opened on Cricklade Road on Thursday, October 16.

Property director Ben Shotter said he and the rest of the Aldi team are looking forward to opening the door to the shop to eager customers.

"Cirencester has featured on our town requirements list for a new store for many years and we are confident that our discount format will offer the town a genuine alternative as well as a substantial saving on the cost of the average weekly shop," added Mr Shotter.

"The building will shortly be handed over to our operations team who will stock the store in preparation for the grand opening."

A total of 50 per cent of the value store's employees have been hired from the local area. The new Aldi will have four aisles of goods and 76 car parking spaces and will be open from 8am-10pm Monday to Saturday and 10am-4pm on Sundays.

Aldi is well known for being a discount supermarket chain and Mr Shotter went on to say that the company's goal is to provide customers with the products they buy regularly, while also ensuring they are the highest possible quality with a low price guaranteed.

"Many high street supermarkets spend huge sums of money on fancy displays and gimmicks in order to persuade you to buy," added the director. "We don’t. Our store layouts are simple, so you can find what you need for the kind of prices you want."
