A FORMER Grenadier guardsman has been jailed for assaulting his ex-partner and threatening her new boyfriend with a knife.

Luke Steed, 24, was traumatised by his service in Afghanistan, his solicitor told Gloucester Crown Court on Tuesday, September 16.

It was against this background that He lost control when his former partner Jade Allsopp – the mother of his two-year-old child – told him she had a new boyfriend, the court heard.

He assaulted her at an address in Kingsway, grabbed a kitchen knife and forced her to go with him to an address in Tuffley to confront boyfriend Eugene Beckinsale, said prosecutor Janine Wood.

Ms Allsopp was left with widespread injuries and Mr Beckinsale was frightened by the knife confrontation but luckily Steed did not attack him, Ms Wood added.

Steed pleaded guilty to assaulting Ms Allsopp causing her actual bodily harm on July 26 this year.

He also admitted having a knife in a public place and driving without a licence or having insurance.

He faces jailed for a year, a six month banned from driving ban for six months and had a three year restraining order imposed banning him from contacting Ms Allsopp.

Joe Maloney, defending, said Steed recognised he was out of control but he was motivated by concern for his daughter.

The court heard that from the age of 17 Steed had to view horrors, real horrors, of combat violence and he has flashbacks to those dreadful events. He was decribed as having 'something of a troubled background.'
