LIFE in Cricklade is set to be frozen in time by groups around the town.

The Jenner Hall Community Trust have asked organisations that helped fund restoration work of Cricklade community building the Jenner Hall to contribute items to a time capsule.

The ceramic capsule will be buried on November 23 at hall and is set to be uncovered in exactly 100 years time.

Included in the time capsule will be messages from children from St Sampsons Primary School and minutes from the latest Cricklade Town Council meeting .

John Hickman , chairman of the Jenner Hall Trust came up with the idea for the time capsule when he uncovered perfectly preserved Victorian pipes behinds walls in the Jenner Hall whilst carrying out renovation work.

He said: “This place is like a time capsule. When we discovered the pipes we knew that things can be preserved and we could put things in a time capsule for our decedents to find.

“People can buy cards available on the day and put a message for their ancestors to read in a hundred years time.”

The Jenner Hall is a Grade II listed building, which is currently used by many community groups in the town.

It is also well know by a lot of the older generation of Cricklade as it was used as a school up until 1960.

He said: “A large number of elderly people went to the Jenner Hall when it was a school. It really has formed a huge part of life for a number of people in Cricklade.”

He added that given the advances in modern science he believed that some of the children from St Sampsons would be alive to see the capsule in 100 years time.

Among the items that will be placed in the time capsule will be a bottle of single malt whiskey which is being put in in the capsule to mark the Scottish referendum this year.

“It will be the oldest bottle of Scotch whiskey in the country,” John said.

Current chairman of the town council Mark Clarke has also been tasked with writing a message to chairman of the council in 2114.
