OBJECTIONS have been raised about an application to increase the height of a house in Cirencester.

Members of Cirencester Town Council planning committee have said they object to an amended application put forward by the occupants of 61 Berry Hill Crescent, as they believe the development will impact on neighbouring houses, overshadowing them and making them less private.

"The street scene would be totally changed," said Cllr Jenny Hincks at the meeting.

The owners of the property had amended their original plans due to the councillors' previous objections. However, chairman Geoffrey Adams said that now they had just made the plans worse.

"They have not addressed our concerns at all," he said. "Our objection gets stronger."

Councillors had driven down the crescent to see for themselves what the area looked like and said that the bungalows all down this particular street were very attractive.

The proposed plans would increase the height of the house by 50 per cent and the new first floor windows would overlook neighbours' gardens, which are currently secluded.

Councillors are also worried that if the application is approved, other residents might be encouraged to change their bungalows as well, which members think will detriment the whole area.
