PLANS to build a three-storey residential home for people with learning disabilities have been thrown out by Stroud District Council.

The proposal for building, 15 supported living apartments in Westward Road was recommended for approval, however members voted to refuse the application.

It was refused on the basis that the proposed building was overbearing and compromised the privacy of surrounding residents.

There were also concerns about parking problems.

Speaking at the meeting, Cllr Tom Williams (Cainscross, Lab) urged the committee to refuse the application but said he was ‘disappointed’ and ‘ashamed’ by some comments made about the use of the building.
