THE Royal British Legion is urgently looking for an organiser to co-ordinate the Poppy Appeal in Stroud.

This year's Poppy Appeal runs from Thursday, October 23, all the way through to Armistice Day on Tuesday, November 11.

The charity is urgently looking for an organiser to cover the Whiteshill, Pagenhill, Cainscross and Ebley area.

As always the Legion would particularly like to encourage young volunteers to come forward in an effort to make a new generation aware that the Poppy Appeal supports serving and ex-service people from recent conflicts.

The charity has already seen take up by University groups and Youth Associations, and it is hoped this success is recreated in Stroud, with the Stroud Campus of South Gloucestershire and Stroud College supporting this year's appeal.

Director of fundraising for the Legion, Charles Byrne, said: "Volunteers are the lifeblood of the Poppy Appeal and contribute enormously to the charity year-round through a variety of roles.

"We depend on 350,000 volunteers each year to help raise vital funds for the Armed Forces community. "Last year £125,280 was raised across the Stroud District and this year we hope to generate even more funds by recruiting additional volunteers to join the team."
