STROUD Valleys Project organised a pressing engagement on Saturday with an event to celebrate National Apple Day.

The environmental charity ran an Apple Day when members of the public were invited to bring their own apples for pressing, going home with containers of the freshest apple juice.

National Apple Day actually took place yesterday but the project team will be juicing again on Sunday when they hold two pressing sessions in the courtyard of the Museum in the Park in Stroud.

Sessions take place from 11am to 12.30pm and from 2pm to 3pm, and all you need to join in are your own apples plus clean bottles for the finished project.

Maintaining the apple theme, a mansion in the Stroud district has launched a campaign to save the British apple via its own alternative to wedding cake.

The Elmore Wedding Crumble features fruit from the orchards at Elmore Court, and will be available to couples getting married at the venue.

The gardens are home to the rare Elmore Pippin, which was discovered on a corner of the estate and is being replanted in the grounds.
