THE news that Cirencester is to have a boutique cinema operator is terrific.

It is just what Cirencester needs and will fit in well with the town’s discerning image.

Everyman is a fantastic cinema operator and an astute choice by developers Wildmoor. Now those who live in the town will only have to take a walk down the road to see the latest blockbuster or an old classic.

We will finally be able to enjoy evenings in our home town, take in a film, have something to eat at one of the nearby restaurants and finish off with a drink at a local bar or pub.

Currently so much time is be taken up driving to and from the cinema there is no time for sitting down for a meal before the show.

And of course the driver of the party cannot enjoy a drink, as they have to drive all the way back to Cirencester.

When the new cinema is built, people can revel in top entertainment, culture and great food right on their doorstep.

While it is understandable that one or two businesses near Brewery Court are worried that their trade might suffer, the chances are the opposite will happen, with more visitors coming into town to see the new cinema.

It is unfortunate that some shops will be demolished. These are both very successful local businesses and we hope they can find somewhere where they can continue to thrive.
