POLICE have confirmed that the elderly man who died at an address on Walkley Hill, Rodborough on Friday had been stabbed.

A 47-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder today, Sunday.

Gloucestershire police have just released the following statement.

"Following the report to paramedics of a deceased 82-year-old man at an address on Walkley Hill, Stroud, Gloucestershire, on Friday, it is now clear that he died of stab wounds and so his death is now being treated as a murder investigation.

"A 47-year-old man local to Stroud, has been arrested today, Sunday, in Southsea, Hampshire.

The dead man’s family has been notified and is being supported by family liaison officers as well as being kept informed of the on-going investigation.

"The coroner has been informed and a post-mortem has been completed.

Police are appealing to members of  the public to contact them urgently with any information that may help the investigation.

This could be anything suspicious that they might have seen on Walkley Hill within the last few days.

  • The address on Walkley Hill is just yards away from the house where Carmel Gamble was  murdered in 1989 aged 43. The murder was never solved.
