CREWS were congratulated after battling a large scale blaze throughout the night in Tewkesbury yesterday.

Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service was called to Delta Drive on Tewkesbury Industrial Estate shortly after 8pm yesterday to attend the incident.

The building was well alight and at the height of the blaze there were 10 fire engines from across Gloucestershire and some from outside the county, with about 80 firefighters at the scene.

Crews used hose reels, aerial appliances and a foam system and worked alongside partner agencies including the police and ambulance service during the incident.

Firefighters worked to get the fire under control and by about 1am some of the crews started to be leave the scene and more filtered away when it was safe to do so. The industrial unit was almost completely destroyed.

One appliance remained on the scene until about 2pm this afternoon to check for hot spots.

Chief fire officer for Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service, Stewart Edgar, said: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank my firefighters, control staff and support staff for their professionalism, skill and commitment throughout the incident.

“At one point last night we had about 80 firefighters at the site which shows what a large scale incident we were dealing with.

“I would also like to thank our partner agencies including police, ambulance and Environment Agency. Working together with our partners ensured we kept Gloucestershire safe.”

Will Windsor-Clive, cabinet member responsible for community safety, said: “I am proud of the work demonstrated by our fire fighters during this challenging incident and the way a number of agencies worked together to keep people safe from harm.”
